Yael Atzmony is an Israeli ceramic artist, senior lecturer, and Head of the Department of Ceramic Design and Glass at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem. She is a magna cum laude graduate of the Haifa University’s Faculty of Art and has won the Maud Friedland Excellence Award in pottery.
Her father, Dov Freberg, was a Holocaust survivor and one of the few individuals to escape the Sobibor death camp during the historic 1943 uprising. Dov survived the horrors of the camps, lost his entire family and later became a key witness in the 1961 trial of Adolf Eichmann. His life and escape heavily influenced Yael’s artwork. She frequently translates his memories and experiences into poignant porcelain and ceramic installations, such as her project Tracing Oblivion and the series Barry.
